Welcome to Indiscrete Musings, a newsletter about everything Cloud and Venture Capital!
Great. Another newsletter. What’s the deal?
I spent the last four years on the Special Projects team at Cloudflare learning about the cloud and almost every layer of the OSI Model1. I joined Cloudflare when the company had 400 employees and left when it scaled to 2,000. Before proceeding, I should caveat that “Special Projects” is really a fancy and almost ludicrous name for Corporate Development. During my time at Cloudflare, I focused on answering the “build, buy, partner” question every large hyper-growth company asks itself, and given that Cloudflare is a product-led org, most of my time was spent on the “build” and “partner”. I was fortunate enough to work on key initiatives such as the Bandwidth Alliance, Analytics Partner program, and the S2 Acquisition which was a key addition to the Cloudflare for Teams Product line. I most recently joined Pelion Venture Partners. I like to think I learned a thing or two from my time at Cloudflare and hope that now, as an investor, I can help founders everywhere see ahead of any potential headwinds.
I’ll be using this newsletter to dive deep into specific segments within the cloud ranging from networking, edge compute, infrastructure, data, security, (+ every other buzzy acronym), and given I’m somewhat of a “newbie” to this venture thing I’ll distill my somewhat fresh and uncuffed thoughts on the world of VC with its high-points and plentiful shortcomings.
